In a new interview with Jason Bailey from the Audacy recording, Corey Taylor he was asked which of his three projects — NOOSE, ACID STONE or his solo group – he would like to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame For. He replied, “Oh, Jesus. At this point, who gives a damn, really? To be honest…It’s hard for me to say they’re wrong because sometimes the people they induct a hundred percent hundred deserve it. But there’s still so many bands that should come in before some of the ones that did. And that really upsets me, man. So at this point, I don’t even know if I’ll even be considered for something like that, and I don’t care, to be honest. For me, it’s a high-five at the end of your career. I’d rather have it later. It’s just something I I don’t really care Am I being stingy pig and I want to be like the deceased, great David Croby and be there like four times? That would be great – if I could be there for all three acts, that would be a killer. But I don’t even think I will participate. So it’s good. I have better things to do.”
Although artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single, iconic hard rock and metal bands like IRON MAIDEN And MOTORHEAD have not yet been recognized by the institution, which has inducted GUNS N’ ROSES in the first year of eligibility for that group.
THE rock room did not induct BLACK SABBATH until 2006, and METALLIC followed three years later.
rock room the rules state that artists become eligible a quarter century after the release of their first records, but Hall also says that other “criteria include the influence and significance of artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of the rock ‘n’ roll”, which is, of course, open to interpretation.
Eligible for induction since 1999, KISS only got his first nomination in 2009 and was finally inducted in 2014.
DARK PURPLE was eligible for the rock room since 1993 but was only inducted in 2014.
JUDAS PRIEST received the musical excellence award last year rock room event that honored Eminem, Dolly Parton, DURAN-DURAN, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, EURYTHMIC And carly simon in the Performers category.
Two years ago, taylor says he would “probably” remove a page from the SEX GUNS‘ playbook by refusing to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame whether NOOSE was ever to get the green light.
When the SEX GUNS‘ induction was announced in 2006, lead singer rotten johnny (neither lydon) sent a hilarious (and grammatically incorrect) handwritten letter in which he compared the Entrance to “urine in wine” and added: “Beside the SEX GUNS, rock and roll and this hall of fame is a piss stain. Were (sic) not coming. Were (sic) not your monkey.” Later he said, “I can’t accept any accolades from them – unless they offer me some shit money.”
The prospect of NOOSE to be inducted into the rock room was raised for taylorMay 2021 interview with Andy Hall from radio station Des Moines, Iowa Laser 103.3. When Andy suggested fans had the power to get NOOSE in the Entrance and “to right all the wrongs of the past by also enthroning JUDAS PRIEST And SCORPIO and a bunch of other bands that deserve their place”, Corey said, “First of all, I don’t care about that Entrance, because I think it’s a bunch of garbage. They don’t honor anything but pop music, really, and they only really introduce real rock bands when they have to give in to the pressure. They’ve disrespected so many bands in the past by putting others ahead of those who really deserved it, that I’d probably go the way of the SEX GUNS. I would be, like, ‘Your Entrance is a sham. I don’t care if I’m part of it or not. You have no idea what the spirit of rock and roll really is. So take that and put it in your you-know-what. So that’s basically where I’m at. And, obviously, I don’t get any brownie points, and I’ll probably never be nominated, but I don’t care.”
taylor went on to say that he doesn’t think NOOSE fans “would really care if we were in (the rock room) to start. It’s not going to stop us from playing,” he said. “I mean, think about it: football players, they retire and then they go (into the Football Hall of Fame). We always go. Why would I want to go in the Hall of Fame if we still kill?
It was not the first time taylor had criticized the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In May 2016, the singer was invited by Wired Nights for his opinion on the comments Gene Simmons challenging the fact that hip-hop artists – and other non-rock artists – are inducted into the rock room. He replied: “I see what Embarrassedsaid, and, you know, I’m an old school guy too; I understand. But at the same time, the more I watch this NWA did, man, I mean, they influenced me, and I’m a rock and roll guy. So how do they not deserve to be in there? For me, bands like that, bands like RUN–DMC, it’s a different type of band, but it’s a band, man. I mean, it’s straightforward. So I can see both sides of the coin.”
He continued, “I have bigger problems with the Hall of Fame than some of the people who entered it. Mine has more to do with the fact that until this year, CHEAP TIP And DARK PURPLE weren’t there. To me, that’s disrespectful on a whole new level. Does NWA deserve to be there? You are fucking right. But do CHEAP TIP And DARK PURPLE deserve to be in the years before entering? You are right, they did. So the whole organization has to figure out who they’re going to honor and when, because there are still bands right now that aren’t there that should be.”
Two years before, Corey called KISS on the public feud between the current band members, two original ex-members and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the band’s long-awaited induction into Entrance in April 2014. taylor says, “On the one hand, you’re thrilled to be a KISS fan, but on the other hand it’s like, ‘Can you just put aside your little problems and realize that without each other you couldn’t have done this? Can you just put things aside and remake a show for fans of the original programming? And then you’re never to see each other again?'”
KISS co-founders Simmons And Paul Stanley strongly rejected the idea of performing at the induction ceremony with former founding members Peter Criss And Ace Frehleydespite the Entrance‘s and the wishes of the fans.
taylor added: “Without (Frehley And screams), the other two guys would not be where they are! And it’s just that I put things directly! I may never receive a kind word from anyone in this band again. But I think it’s petty and I think it’s ridiculous! Understand it! Show respect, because sometimes it’s not about you, it’s about the fans.”
Another artist who notoriously refused to be inducted into the rock room East GUNS N’ ROSES singer Axl Rose. In an April 2012 letter to Entrancethe band’s fans and “to whom it may concern”, Pink listed several reasons for not attending his band’s ceremony in Cleveland, including feeling that the Entrance don’t respect it. Declining his own induction, he added: “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized and no one may be authorized to accept an induction for me or speak on my behalf. “
