News previously joined Voivode on stage in June 2013 at Hellfest in Clisson, France and in June 2016 at Slim’s in San Francisco, California.
News joined Voivode in 2002 and was producer of the metal legends self-titled album in 2003 on the Chophouse Records label (in association with Surfdog Recordings).
Longtime friends and pioneers of metal music, News And Voivode singer Snake (a.k.a Denis Belanger),guitarist porcine (a.k.a Denis D’Amour) and drummer Far (a.k.a Michel Langevin) started working together at NewsIt is chophouse studio in 1995, with the intention of keeping the music alive between busy tours. However, with Newsthe departure of METALLIC in January 2001, he was free to join Voivode as a full member and will remain involved in the group until 2008.
Jason recently announced its intention to reactivate its NEWS project for a concert on May 20 at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Newswho plays bass and sings in the project, will be joined at the concert by original NEWS members Jesus Mendez Jr. (UNDER LORD) to the battery and Jessie Farnsworth (UNDER LORD) on guitar, with a new guitarist Humberto Perez.
According Newsthe setlist for the Revolution Live concert will mainly consist of new songs that NEWS fans have never heard of before. Describing the material as “pretty punk”, he told the “let’s talk” podcast: “I put together this kind of MOTORHEAD-thing flavored about a year and a half ago and wrote these MOTORHEAD-songs flavored with bass as first instrument. I took the main three Animal Philthy drum beats and just pick that one and do a song and pick that one and do a song, and go around a few times and write that many songs. So I wrote fun songs. And now we mix them with “Soldier’s Head” And “Heroic Dose” and those videos that people know, but mostly play new songs. And they are path less complex – path less complex than FLOTSAM (AND JETSAM), METALLIC or even the (first stuff of) the NEWS band or ECHOBRAIN certainly. Just real punk rock, straight like MOTORHEAD — lots of fast stuff, lots of double bass. Most of them are quite fast. It’s just fun, though – fun as shit.”
In February 2014, News canceled an appearance at Australia Sound wave party with NEWS, citing “private and personal circumstances”. The cancellation follows more than a year of intense touring and promotional activities around the release of NEWSIt is “Metal” EP and follow-up album, “Heavy Metal Music”both of which were positively received by critics and fans.
stain guitarist mike musokwho joined NEWS in March 2013 and performed on “Heavy Metal Music”said “The Jasta Show” in a 2019 interview that Jason eventually ended the band because it was not financially viable for him to continue playing.
